The Big Board at Liberty Elm Diner

Guy's Turkey Sandwich

Okay, a couple of days in Providence, RI and here is your update…

1. Yesterday I went to a great little diner in Providence called the Liberty Elm Diner. This place was highlighted on Food Network star Guy Fieri’s show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I caught this episode recently (originally aired in 2010) and decided to take the cab in and see how it was myself. I was not disappointed.

The place wasn’t bustling however it was a weekday and I was early for lunch. Paul was my guy behind the “bar” and he recommended the turkey sandwich Guy had when he was here, and is now named after him. I did and it was delicious. White turkey meat with pea greens and lots of flavor. Came with the chips and a terrific NY Sour Pickle. Paul topped it off by making me a freshly squeezed carrot, apple, and beet juice. Delicious. This place does a great job of supporting the local farming community. They also bring in folks from all over. While I was there, I chatted with a couple who came in to town from Massachusetts to have a Monte Cristo and then head over to Trader Joe’s.

Bottom line – the food was great, the meal was cheap, the cab fare expensive, but worth the effort!

2. Last night I ate at the Legal Sea Foods near the airport. A very nice place with excellent food and service. Loved their special – a flounder on polenta with roasted tomatoes. Fabulous. I caved for a little dessert. They had a chocolate mousse that had no extra sugar and gluten-free. I figure you get a few brownie points for that right?

You can’t go wrong with Legal Sea Foods. Heading over there tonight again. It’s Lent and a Friday, so guess what I’m having? Check my Twitter page to find out exactly what it was. You can follow me by clicking on the link to the right.

That’s it for now. Heading home to Seattle and Poulsbo tomorrow.

Eat well.
